Dr Keith Harrison

Keith holds a full Consultant position in the Maternity and Gynaecology Department at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital. He currently holds the position of Head of Department for Gynaecology. He has a busy, and well established private practice at the Royston Hospital in Hastings with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery.

Menstrual dysfunction,
endometriosis and pelvic pain:

  • Diagnosis, medical and surgical management of endometriosis including advanced laparoscopic surgery for severe endometriosis. 
  • Laparoscopic (key-hole) hysterectomy and myomectomy (removal of fibroids). 
  • Hysteroscopic (trans-cervical) surgery including endometrial ablation/resection of fibroids, polyps and septae. 
  • Evaluation and surgical removal of pelvic cysts and masses. 
  • Non-surgical management of pelvic pain and menstrual dysfunction.

Incontinence and
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (prolapse):

  • Evaluation and non-surgical management including vaginal ring pessaries.
  • Urinary incontinence (bladder leakage).
  • Laparoscopic (key-hole) Burch procedure.
  • TVT retropubic sling.
  • Vaginal surgery for treatment of prolapse with/without hysterectomy.
  • Laparoscopic (key-hole) para-vaginal repair and vault suspension for treatment of prolapse (non-mesh).
  • Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for treatment of recurrent prolapse.

Colposcopy and
Vulval Dermatology

  • Smear taking and evaluation of abnormal cervical smears.
  • Colposcopy (cervical examination) and treatment of abnormal cervical cells.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of vulval irritation and skin abnormality.

Fertility

  • Evaluation, treatment and referral for sub-fertility.
  • Laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis/pelvic scarring (adhesions), as appropriate.
  • Treatment for PCOS (polycystic ovaries).
 

Menopausal Medicine

  • Evaluation of abnormal bleeding.
  • Risk evaluation, prescribing and monitoring of hormone replacement therapies.

Adolescent Gynaecology

  • Menstrual abnormality and pelvic pain.
  • Treatment of structural abnormality of the vagina.
